"Recipients of these bonuses will not be able to keep all of their money," declared Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in an unusually strong threat delivered on the Senate floor.
"If you don't return it on your own, we will do it for you," echoed Chuck Schumer of New York.
Our elected leaders want to take money away from private citizens, just because they feel bad about the bonus situation. The bonuses were contracted payments, they can not be taken away.
This is driving me nuts, take away all the welfare payments when anyone on assistance is caught with drugs, when the government starts to do that, well, then they can mess with these bonuses, until then, shut up.
UPDATE
The house voted to steal the money back from the people who earned it. This is insane, our government simply deciding that certain American citizens are to be taxed at special rates?
what is going on?

I'm a little ticked about paying for the bonuses but if they were contracted not much you can do there but that only leads to the bigger issue.
The Dems are now doing their typical cover their ass rant because they weren't smart enough to put some restrictions on what the $$ could be used for, or could not be used for in this case. They were more interested in ramming through their agenda before anyone could even comprehend the scope of what was going on let alone what was going to happen. The “every day we delay” chant was their daily talking point. Now it's their typical class warfare B.S. to hide their incompetence.
But you make a good point; let’s apply the same standard to welfare recipients. You get caught buying drugs with MY money, off welfare. Get caught with “luxury” items (HD T.V. reception, DSL/cable internet, cell phones instead of a land line, $1,000 rims for your “ride”) while taking MY money, confiscated and off welfare.
They make me sick!
