Connecting the dots the media won't

So, our state department thinks the vote in Venezuela is a good thing
The career diplomats in the state department finally have a socialist in the White House, they must be so happy. 46% of the people in Venezuela did not want Chavez to be President for life, who knows how the others were coerced, but our state department says:
Clay said that after the vote, "it is important that elected officials now focus on governing democratically and addressing the issues of concern to the Venezuelan people.

Yeah, that is going to happen.
An emboldened Hugo Chávez vowed to speed up “the construction of true socialism” in Venezuela after winning the right to stand for reelection indefinitely – a measure that opponents say puts the country on the path to dictatorship.

I am a 43 year old college drop out, how come I know that this is what the result would be and our state department pretends it didn't know this? Are we as Americans supposed to be that stupid? really?
